Green Swamp - McNeil's
Sun, Jul 4, 10am – 4pm

Roadside gate and kiosk along SR 471 (map)

We haven't gone on this popular trip in a few years. The water has been too low. It is in SWFWMD property and we need a permit and combination to the lock to get access. The adventure starts by getting through the gate, and proceeds down a long dirt road. This is near the beginning of the Withlacoochee River and has been accessible only this way as the river is blocked above and below this section. This is a rare chance to paddle this part of this river. We will also be at the beginning of the Hillsborough River before we end this fun trip. Sometimes a portage has been necessary. Lunch provided - water cannons, too.
