PEACE RIVER FOSSIL HUNT
BRADENTON

There was a time when Mastodons and Saber-Toothed cats roamed Florida, and sharks that made the Great White seem small hunted the seas. The remains of the creatures of those times are found fossilized in the soft limestone rocks in Florida nowadays, and are uncovered by the softening action of the tannin-rich Peace River. Join us on our river trip east of Bradenton and sift the river gravel in search of black shark teeth and mastodon bones. As you drift over the shallows, look around for the slender-necked anhinga.
